In a Vase on Monday: Black-Eyed Susans

During the Garden Bloggers Fling, I had the opportunity to get to know Susie Moffat who mentioned that Cathy at Rambling in the Garden posts a photo of flowers in a vase on Mondays and calls it “In a Vase on Monday.” Other bloggers chime in and post photos of their vases of flowers on Monday. Usually I cut flowers in my garden and bring them to the office but I just stick them in a vase; I don’t “arrange.” By Friday they have passed their prime so I do it all over again the next week. For today, July 10, I have black-eyed Susan, Rudbeckia hirta. They are very easy to grow in my Virginia garden and they are the state flower for Maryland where I work.  #inavaseonmonday

    Peggy, your black-eyed Susans look cheerful (and very well arranged). Mine are not quite open yet. If you leave a comment on Cathy’s post from today, she and other Monday vasers can find your post more easily. Glad you joined in.

    You will find that most contributors just ‘pick and plonk’ too, Peggy – but Susie’s are definitely ‘arrangements’ and always so elegant! It’s the process of cutting and bringing them inside that we encourage – and not just flowers of course. We find it helps us look at the garden in a different way – each week of the year – and it is a most rewarding challenge. These rudbeckia aren’t fully hardy in the UK and area very pretty flower to represent a state! Thanks for sharing today – and see you again!
